Université Internationale de Libreville (UIL) organised an Open Day on Saturday, 11 May 2019. The day enabled final-year pupils from Libreville’s secondary schools and colleges to visit this centre of learning. The signing of an agreement between the University and the National Scholarship Agency of Gabon (ANBG) was also part of the programme. ANBG staff explained scholarship-award criteria to learners and baccalaureate candidates.
A signature and handshake sealed the agreement between Université Internationale de Libreville and the National Scholarship Agency of Gabon. Final-year pupils from Libreville secondary schools answered the University’s invitation. Some came with their parents to understand why they might choose to continue their higher education at this centre of learning.
UIL Rector Prof. Frédéric Planche told future baccalaureate graduates that they would be welcome at the institution. He described a safe environment conducive to reflection, pleasant and restful, in short, a setting with good learning conditions. The campus brought together Institut Supérieur de Gestion et d’Économie Appliquée, Faculté de Droit et des Sciences Politiques and École Polytechnique de Libreville. “Student supervision is provided by trained and competent staff, attentive to their wellbeing as well as the monitoring and control of their progress in the educational process, in accordance in particular with international LMD standards (Licence–Master–Doctorate),” the Rector explained.
The Deputy Director General of ANBG, Fidèle Otomo, then stressed that Université Nationale de Libreville and ANBG shared the same concern: providing Gabonese people with a good education. He added that scholarship criteria remained unchanged and followed Decree 404. “We wanted to sign this partnership in the interest of future students and their parents. It will make it possible to train Gabonese people locally and at lower cost,” he said.
Some pupils and parents who attended were delighted. They listened to the messages and appreciated them, then visited the institution and were impressed. One mother said she had not imagined that the University was “a paradise” and hoped her daughter would pass her baccalaureate and study there the following academic year.
Other pupils were visiting for the first time. They said they would work hard to obtain their qualification at the end of the year in the hope of joining this environment for higher education. A final-year pupil from Mikolongo said the visit had shown him that the conditions for success were in place and that he intended to work hard to earn his baccalaureate.
The guided tour led by Assane Sylla benefited ANBG staff, pupils and parents alike. It allowed them to discover the opportunities offered by the University and to learn in the best possible conditions.
