For the next trade-policy training session offered by the World Trade Organization to senior public-administration officials, Gabon’s application was described as one of the strongest in Central Africa by the head of the WTO delegation then visiting Libreville.

On Friday, 17 February in Libreville, Trade Minister Yves Fernand Manfoumbi and his delegate Emmanuel Eyeghe Nze received WTO experts who had come to assess Université Internationale de Libreville, shortlisted to deliver the regional trade-policy course for officials from WTO member countries. Gabon had applied some time earlier to host this training.

Willy Alfaro explained that the WTO training programme, which has been running for several years, aims to strengthen officials’ capacities for a maximum period of four years. “Many applications were received by the WTO, but only the strongest were selected, and Gabon is among them,” he told Gabon 1ère journalists as Director of the Trade Policy Review Division.

Located in Essassa, in the municipality of Ntoum north of Libreville, Université Internationale de Libreville (UIL) was presented as the WTO’s future partner for the regional trade-policy course. The delegation was visiting the Gabonese capital to assess the quality of its facilities and welcome arrangements.
